On November 30th 2011, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its draft Vessel General Permit (VGP). The new VGP includes specific BWT technology review and approval criteria. The new VGP lists five BWT technologies that have been accepted by the U.S. Government as having demonstrated the ability to meet the IMO D-2 discharge standard in accordance with EPA’s review criteria.More...
Through an extensive global network of sales representatives, partners, suppliers and service providers, N.E.I. manufactures, sells, distributes and services the VOS™ System to customers worldwide.
N.E.I. has developed, patented and commercialized the Venturi Oxygen Stripping™ (VOS™) System, a ballast water treatment solution which uses deoxygenation and cavitation to deliver safe, cost effective and reliable compliance to IMO and U.S. Ballast Water Discharge Standards.
N.E.I. has installed or is currently in production with Venturi Oxygen StrippingTM (VOS) ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for 27 large ships. N.E.I.’s BWTS install base included tankers, bulkers, and containerships with ballast water flow rates ranging from less than 500 to more than 6,000 cubic meter per hour.
N.E.I. Treatment Systems received its fifth Type Approval Certificate from the Netherlands for its patented Venturi Oxygen StrippingTM (VOS) ballast water treatment system. The VOS system was certified with a Treatment Rated Capacity of 6,500 cubic meters per hour.
N.E.I. Treatment Systems is a pioneer and market leader in provisioning large commercial ships with Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS). N.E.I. enables its customers to cost-effectively comply with pending IMO and U.S. regulations that protect the world's oceans and waterways from invasive aquatic plants and animals. These harmful aquatic organisms are transferred from one ecosystem to another via the ballast water discharged by ships, which if left untreated, are known to cause devastating ecological and economic harm to their new environments.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted a Ballast Water Management Convention which, upon ratification, will require all commercial ships to install and operate BWTS on a scheduled roll-out beginning in 2012. To address this critical requirement, N.E.I. developed, patented and commercialized the Venturi Oxygen Stripping™ (VOS™) System, becoming the first-to-market with a Type Approved ballast water treatment system which fully complies with the IMO's Ballast Water Discharge Standards.
The VOS™ System induces a low oxygen environment within the ballast tanks which safely and cost-effectively eliminates harmful aquatic organisms without the use of active sub- stances. At the same time, this low oxygen, non-toxic environment also protects the ship's ballast tank coatings against degradation and corrosion of steel, thereby extending the useful life of ballast tanks to more than 35 years and delivering a BWTS return on investment.
