N.E.I. Treatment Systems is a pioneer and market leader in provisioning large commercial ships with Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS). N.E.I.’s VOS system was the first in the world to receive IMO approval (Liberia, 2007). N.E.I. enables its customers to cost-effectively comply with U.S. discharge regulations now law and being enforced, and the pending IMO discharge regulations that protect the world's oceans and waterways from invasive aquatic plants and animals.
The United States has adopted in to law discharge standards for commercial vessels trading in its waters. The VOS system from NEI is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard under the Alternate Management System (AMS) program to treat ANY water type. This approval includes all salinity levels, turbidity levels and temperatures-something very few suppliers can claim. To address the pending IMO discharge standards ratification, NEI has obtained more audited type approvals than any other company with five flag states (Liberia, The Marshall Islands, Panama, Malta and The Netherlands). VOS treats all water types without the use of filtration, and without the need to re-treat or neutralize corrosive chemicals.
The VOS™ System induces a low oxygen environment within the ballast tanks which safely and cost-effectively eliminates harmful aquatic organisms without the use of active sub- stances. At the same time, this low oxygen, non-toxic environment also protects the ship's ballast tank coatings against degradation and corrosion of steel, thereby extending the useful life of ballast tanks to more than 35 years and delivering a BWTS return on investment.
